Post 8-B

I think that there are benefits and detriments when it comes to showing parents their kids IQ tests at early ages. One benefit is that it allows the parents and schools to identify gifted children in get them into classes that will challenge them more than a regular class. However, if parents do not fully understand that IQ tests are merely one type of intelligence they may take this information and either think that their child is entitled to more or may think that a kid with a lower IQ has no chance of making it.

  1. Justin,
I agree that after giving their child this IQ test parents may either think their child is entitled to more or they may just give up on them. I didn't think there were any benefits to this IQ test until I read your post. I do agree with you that it could help identify gifted children. In this way, it could be a very good thing.

  2. When i think of parents giving their children at home IQ tests, i can only think of the negitive. I know that when children are tested early it can truly benefit them, they may need to be put into special classes if they are gifted or if they are behind; it is a good thing. But we have professionals for that. Parents should focus on spending time with their kids and not put so much pressure on them.

  3. I agree on giving children IQ tests to see if they need to be in a gifted class. Sometimes students get bored in class, and need to be challanged. By giving them an IQ test teachers cab determine if they need to be in those classes.
