For those women who are pregnant, it is important to be educated on what harmful effects certain drugs/alcohol may have. However, those women who chose to abuse those drugs or even alcohol are already putting themselves at risk, so they obviously are aware of the effects it may have on the baby. I think insurance companies provide enough information about the harmful effects that certain substances might have on the child, as well as on the mother. It is important to educate those women who may not have been previously informed about the certain defects it may lead to. Heath-care providers are supportive of women who are pregnant, and are helpful in answering questions. Most doctor's offices provide pamphlets and brochures for pregnant women. Pregnant women themselves should be aware of the harmful effects by just watching the news, or looking through magazine ads. Most people are aware of the effects smoking has just through the media itself.

  1. I completely agree with you that if a woman does not care enough about her health, most likely she is not going to care about her childs either.

  2. You are right when saying most women already know the risk of what happens if you smoke or drink while being pregnant. This makes it even worse though because that means women still choose to drink and smoke, knowing it is harmful to their unborn baby.

  3. You are right there is plenty of information out there to educate women on how harmful it is to smoke/drink during pregnancy, that it is sad that women need more resources to get the picture.

  4. I agree that education is very key and that all women need to learn about the harmful effects there just needs to be some sort of incentive not to use these drugs. I think insurance companies can offer benefits like therapy to help women get off these drugs.

  5. Education is obviously the key ingredient here, however if the insurance companies and health care providers provide so much information then why do we still see pregnant women smoking and drinking? Obviously the information they are providing is not getting the job done.
