The two pieces of information that I would tell new mothers about a child's bio social/ physical development is the importance of sleeping and brain development. The mother needs to know that newborns need to get 17 hours of sleep and that importance of sleep, associated with the neurotransmitters and what can happen with sleep deprivation. Also the importance of brain development through experiences in their environment with their motor skills and how there are sensitive periods that the child has to learn.

  1. I believe that informing a mother on the importance of sleep for her new infant is very important. Also if you explain the importance of sleep and how that will help with the childs brain development. Also explaining the importance of a childs motor skill is good, and helping the mother in the development of the motor skill. Like playing games and the things in the environment that will help is important.

  2. Letting the mother know how much sleep an infant really needs and why is very important. I know plenty of mothers who think their child sleeps too much and don't realize it's good for their child. Also, really letting them know the importance of brain development through experiences, and giving examples possibly, would be very important. I'm sure all mothers should learn about the senstitive periods when children should be learning certain things is very important because if they aren't learned at this time it will be harder in the future.

  3. I agree with Kalie, I also know several parents who worry that their child sleeps too much. It would be very important to stress to a new mother that they need more sleep than we do and it is completely normal for an infant to sleep for 17 hrs and explain to them why that much sleep is a good thing.
